Design: The civic center features rooms for the municipal administration, childcare, and rehearsal rooms split over three storeys. Answering the specific topographical situation of the site with a precise placement, the building is surrounded by generous spaces for private and public uses (school yard, playgrounds, public plaza).
Wood: The building was realized with a reinforced steel structure with high-quality timber elements, isolated and prefabricated, for the exterior walls. The interior surfaces, including the furnishing, are clad with untreated wood from the local forests, producing a pleasant look and feel. The exterior sidings, made of Silver fir, result in an unobtrusive appearance, while the differentiated openings in the facade and varied vertical placement of the timber slats give every side of the building its own face.
Energy: The compact building manages to reach very high energy efficiency thanks to its mechanical ventilation control and high-quality glazing (passive house). In cooperation with the Energy Institute of Vorarlberg, the planning and construction was guided by the service manual “Sustainable: Municipal Building”, and the building was eventually awarded with 946 points (out of 1000) in its municipal building certificate.
