Kamorstraße residential building

Konstanz, Germany

Ansicht West 1 | Ansicht West
The timber-framed residential building blends naturally into the urban environment and successfully resolves its placement in a limited space.
Design: The apartment building is located in Konstanz, close to the shores of Lake Constance. With its compact volume and gabled roof, it reproduces the characteristics of the surrounding villas. The square, south-facing spaces are designed in a functionally neutral way and arranged in such a way that on each floor a part of the apartment, for example as an office, can be separated from the rest of the building. The two spaces and the plumbing space can also be separated by a staircase. One large loggia on each of the two facades of all three floors forms a private outdoor space. These additional 'outdoor corner spaces' offer beautiful views of the lake and increase the living space during the summer months.

Wood:   The low spans required in the building allowed the entire timber frame structure to be made of structural timber and the entire construction to be made of solid timber (white fir from the Black Forest). The 'vapour barrier' was not designed as a foil, but in the form of diagonal timber formwork, which ensures airtightness by means of a joint to the swallow's tails.

Energy: The building meets the current legal requirements (EEWärmeG) for thermal envelope and also with its gas condensing unit.
