Design: The three-storey multi-family house is located on a hillside in the meadow in the centre of the village. The development of the levels in the dwellings reflects the outward rising terrain. The sleeping areas are offset by a few steps, which introduces a simple division of the rooms into day and night. The timber construction is inspired in its materialisation by the surrounding rural outbuildings.
Wood: The building is of bare solid construction, with basements and staircases made of insulating concrete. The solid timber construction (120 mm triple-laminated cross-laminated panels of large format) allows for a clean breakdown of the different structural functions and their easy decomposition. The facade, made of local larch, is untreated and has different natural greys depending on the direction of the sky. The solid wood walls are visible inside and treated only with a white glaze. The highly complex geometry could be precisely prefabricated and produced in just three days by digitally cutting large-format panels.
Energy: Gas heating, solar thermal and controlled ventilation with minimal installation and installation costs (wet cell ventilation system with flow through window).
