Sustainable, natural living close to Basel city centre: the new neighbourhood sets an example in terms of energy consumption and quality of life.
Design: The housing estate is located in the Hirzbrunnen district, close to the city centre. It consists of 43 terraced houses and two multi-family houses with 22 owner-occupied flats. Despite the dense construction method, the building layout ensures the highest possible degree of privacy - gardens, large roof terraces and loggias form private outdoor spaces. The floor plans of the multi-family houses can be freely arranged. Buildings that follow a curve are designed for both living and working, and the lines of the terraced houses express different typologies.

Wood: The buildings are built on a solid basement and are constructed in timber or hybrid construction. In multi-family houses, the load-bearing structure and staircases are made of reinforced concrete, while the non-load-bearing external walls are made of prefabricated timber frame elements.

Energy: The project is designed according to the criteria of the Swiss 2000 Watt Company and certified according to Minergie-P-Eco. In addition to the energy required for operation, the mobility energy resulting from the location of the building is taken into account. The energy required for the production and removal of construction materials is also included. These three components are defined with indicators and target values in the "SIA-Effizienzpfad Energie" guidance document.
